Gregory J. Reed’s background in entertainment and sports law is one of the broadest and diverse in the field of entertainment; it stands out on its own without hyperbole.
One of the youngest African-American
pioneers in the field when he began his practice, Reed’s clients are preeminent
– even legendary – in their fields. He has created, produced, and represented
Broadway plays and national touring companies. His creative work with civil
rights icon Mrs.
Rosa Parks is redefining areas of the entertainment field.
He served as the chair of the Sports and Entertainment Lawyer’s Section of the State Bar of Michigan and was the first African American lawyer to serve as chair in United States. He was a founder and former vice president of the board of the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association; he has been inducted into that Association’s Hall of Fame. He is a board member and first African-American member of the ($160 million ) Michigan State University Foundation; he is the treasure and chairperson of the financial/investment committee for that foundation. He is the founder of the Gregory J. Reed Scholarship Foundation which aids students in the fields of art, engineering, and the law.
Reed purchased the original manuscript of the Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley which includes the handwritten notations of both Alex Haley and Malcolm X. The Keeper of the Word Foundation, founded by Reed, is in the process of establishing a traveling exhibition and several media-related projects based on this work.
Reed is the co-founder of the Rosa Parks Library and Museum, affiliated with Troy State University, which will house her intellectual property and archival documents. Reed has appeared on major United States television networks, cable outlets, and radio talk shows. He is a frequent guest lecturer at institutions both in the United States and abroad.
